Keeping Your Kids in the Game

The Children’s Movement Center is for ALL kids...

We believe that play needs to be universal and laughter is the best medicine. Let us help you provide a way to bring play and laughter to your special child. We understand that many children have limitations, and precautions must be observed, but we do our very best to accommodate and make room for everyone.

Special Mondays...

Giving all kids the opportunity to enjoy active play is a core value at The CMC.  Children with special needs are no exception so, we’ve created, “Special Mondays”. Each week, we open the Activity Center to children with special needs and their families. For minimal cost, any child with special needs, their parents & siblings can come take advantage of the vast array of play activities we have to offer. Whether a child thrives on sensory input, has “lots of energy”, or simply loves to bounce, spin or climb, all are welcome. There are no funny looks, rude comments or judgments made here, everyone is on the same page – letting kids have fun. Come join in!

Physical Therapy...

If your child needs physical therapy, then our PT,  Scott Coulter,  is the one to see.  He  has been rehabilitating children since 1996. After a stint at Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, NY, Scott worked in the Birth to Three/Early Intervention programs in Westchester County, and he was the primary PT at the Westchester Exceptional Children’s School in North Salem prior to opening the CMC.  His experience with special children, especially those on the autistic spectrum, is extensive.

Prior to entering the physical therapy profession, Scott got his Masters degree in Physical Education and he’s been a personal trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist since 1986. He has been a teacher and a coach, working with everyone from professional athletes to infants both in the classroom and on the ball field.

If your child is unable to participate in recreational activities due to a disability, birth defect, or accident, Scott is the one to get him or her moving. Nobody can cure Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome or Erb’s Palsy, but that doesn’t mean children with those, and other disabilities, can’t enjoy recreational activities along with their friends. After all, The Children’s Movement Center was founded upon the principle that all kids need to move.

Scott’s approach to PT is to make it fun, he includes activities such as the surf machine for those that need to work on balance, and the climbing wall for those that need to improve strength. When a child enjoys what he or she is doing, there’s much greater participation and therefore results from physical therapy.

Every case is unique and each child must be evaluated to determine the best course of treatment. Consider having  Scott work with your child. The results might just amaze you.
